Our normal weekly meeting will be replaced by a vocational visit to the Werribee U-Vet Animal Hospital, 250 Princes Hwy, Werribee.

There will be two group tours - one at 6 pm and the other at 6:30 pm. Following the tours we will move to the Racecourse Hotel for a meal commencing at 7:15 pm.

ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL TREE PLANTING PROJECT COMPLETED

A group of dedicated Rotarians, together with many friends of Rotary and community members, joined forces on Sunday 19th May to plant 1200 trees in Rosslare Reserve, Hoppers Crossing.

The weather was perfect for the occasion and the group worked diligently and quickly to get the job done within 3 hours. It was pleasing to see some local residents joining in as they responded to the call for assistance.

Special thanks go to staff from Wyndham City Council for providing equipment and services to make the job easier. Thanks also to Geoff Smith for his tireless efforts in organising the event, despite the fact that he was noticeable by his absence on the day.

After the work was completed, we all celebrated our efforts with a sausage sizzle. Thanks everyone for making it a successful and fun day.

IN BRIEF........
  • Footy Tipping - We had joint winners of the weekly $10 prize - Ann Smith and James Randall - who were 3 points away from the actual score. The top tipsters for the week were Marty Vaina and Elizabeth Ross who both picked 9 out of 9 winners. Graham Roper has rocketed to the top of the ladder with 53 points. He has overtaken Mary Maguire who is on 52 followed by Kathryn Williams and Ann Smith on 51. Three women in the top four! Just goes to show that they know more about football than the blokes.

  • President Graham reported that, at the last Board meeting, it was agreed to donate the following funds:

    • $2,000 to The Smith Family
    • $5,000 to the Werribee Mercy Hospital Mental Health Program
    • $2,000 to the Kianh Foundation in Vietnam

  • A combined meeting was held between members of our club and staff from Wyndham Central College with a view to establishing an Interact Club at the school. The school is very keen for this to come to fruition and, as a result, plans are now in place for the new club to be commissioned in the second half of this year.

  • Upcoming Meetings in June:

    • Tuesday 4th June - Committee dinners at the Italian Sports Club.

    • Tuesday 11th June - Club Changeover at Wyndham Cache. Click here to see the invitation from Brian and Nuge. If you haven't already replied to Nuge, please pay her the courtesy of doing so as quickly as possible.

    • Tuesday 18th June - Guest Speaker - Linden Smith - talking about the Youth Referral and Independent Persons Program.

    • Tuesday 25th June - Club Vision brainstorming session.

  • Peter Ross introduced a potential new member Akuc Deng to the members at our last meeting. She attended to get an idea of what Rotary is all about. Akuc was born in South Sudan. Her family moved to Kenya before migrating to Australia. She is a very personable young lady despite the fact that she barracks for North Melbourne. Here is a picture of Akuc and Peter.

  • Did anyone check the golf scores in last Sunday's paper? If you did you would have noticed that one of our members won C grade at The Sands course last Saturday. Modesty and humility prevents him from boasting about the feat. But we have been able to find an image of the results for everyone to see. Congratulations Phil.
