THIS IS MY LIFE - GRAHAM ROPER

I was born in 1949 in Launceston and, at an early age, I moved to Adelaide with my mother and father. When I was about 5, we moved to Melbourne and lived in East Malvern. I started my school life at Tooronga Road Primary School in East Malvern.

In 1959, my mother and father decided to split up and Mum and I returned to live in Launceston. I continued my primary school education at Invermay Primary School and later attended G.V. Brooks High School. I left school at the end of 1964.

RACE MEETING - APRIL 26TH

President Graham and Ross Smith will be attending the Community Clubs Day race meeting at the Werribee Racing Club on Friday 26th April and they are inviting you to join them. It is a day designed to recognise the fantastic contribution that our community clubs make to the people of Wyndham. This specific race meeting will provide an opportunity for clubs from throughout the region to come together and enjoy a wonderful day at the races.

TREE PLANTING DAY - 19TH MAY

In conjunction with Wyndham City Council, we will be conducting a Community Tree Planting day on Sunday 19th May. A total of 1454 trees will be planted. So it is a bigger exercise than our previous project where we planted 700 trees. That's why we are advertising it as a community event where we are asking for support from the people of Wyndham.

Click here to see the poster which will be displayed on various street notice boards.

IN BRIEF........
  • Sad to report the passing of two people who were known to longer -term members:

    • Sylvia Flynn was the wife of past member John Flynn (dec) who was President in 1984-85.

    • Brian Lawson was a member of the club in the 1990's.

  • Footy Tipping - While everyone floundered with their selections last week, President Graham scored an amazing 7 out of 9. He now screams to the top of the ladder beside Ross Conley (who scored 2 out of 9) and Mary Maguire who are all on 20 points.

  • At the last Board meeting, it was decided to donate $1500 to the Breakfast Club. The Board also discussed donating funds towards the construction of a new school in Vanuatu which is a project being led by the Rotary Club of Woodend. While the construction will be managed locally, a FAIM trip may be offered to apply the finishing touches.

  • Brian Ahmed advised that, in the past 3 weeks, we have accumulated about $1500 from proceeds of the Bingo sessions.

  • Upcoming events/meetings:

    • Bunnings BBQ's - Thanks to everyone who has volunteered their time for two upcoming BBQ's - 18th April and 23rd April.

    • Tuesday 14th May - vocational visit to the Werribee Veterinary Hospital, 250 Princes Highway, Werribee.

    • Monday 27th May - a joint social get-together with the Rotary Club of Hoppers Crossing at the Italian Sports Club to experience a Bingo session. This is not an official club meeting.

    • Tuesday 11th June - Club Changeover at Wyndham Cache. Click here to see the invitation from Brian and Nuge.

  • Tino Ballan was the guest of honour at the Werribee Football Club's President's dinner at Chirnsides By The River a few weeks ago. Ballan Holden was the match day sponsor during the club's first game of the season against North Melbourne and Tino was asked to say a few words. Fortunately, the team had a good win. Last week, they beat Coburg so they sit second on the ladder with two wins and no losses. This coming Saturday afternoon, they play their third consecutive game at home against Geelong. Here is a photo of Tino at the President's dinner.
