Our third Mental Health and Wellness Forum for young women was held on Thursday 18th September.

We heard from two inspiring guest speakers who have travelled different journeys through their life but have experienced many challenges and experiences which they shared with the audience.

  1. Brittany Bonnici is a local resident who plays AFLW football with Collingwood. She talked about her personal journey to reach the top of her chosen sport. Some of her key messages were about resilience, managing setbacks and celebrating success in elite sport. She also emphasised the importance of maintaining positive and open communication lines between teammates, friends and family members.
  2. Professor Vasso Apostolopolous is an internationally recognised medical researcher. She is currently the Head of Health and Biomedical Sciences at RMIT University. During her distinguished career, she has contributed significantly to the development of drugs and vaccines, with a focus on improving human health and longevity. She explained that there is a real connection between the gut and the brain. She described what constitutes healthy food and how it has a positive impact on good mental health.
